Senate

SAS Senate is composed of students that are appointed via an application process every fall. Representatives are confirmed and are subject to the approval of 2/3 of the SAS Board. The Senate is led by the Executive Vice President and hosts  BeHeard Forums  throughout the year.

During the 2024-2025 year, the SAS Senate will continue various projects and brainstorm new initiatives. We have employed the Wellness Vending Machine project in collaboration with Scripps Advocates. We also created a large-scale resource guide, and are circulating the guide in the forms of a large posters and brochures. We also are revamping the Student Union in collaboration with the Community Building Chair and Students Organizations Commissioner!

Please contact Executive Vice President Anabhra Singh with questions about SAS Senate or topics for BeHeard forums.

Election Process
  • Elections for three Senate committee chairs will coincide with SAS elections in the spring of each school year
  • Students going abroad may run with a co-chair- if a candidate will be on campus for the entire year, they are required to stay in the position for the full two years
  • Previous Senate involvement preferred to run for committee chair
  • The remaining senators will be appointed via application in the fall (during First-Year Class President elections)
Sub-Committees
  • Transparency and Accountability
    • Works as a liaison between administration and students
    • Ensuring fair process is implemented
    • Help increase student participation in decision making on campus and work towards ensuring everyone feels represented in both SAS and administration
  • Two other committees can be decided via conversation with Executive Vice President and elected committee chairs; assessed based on campus needs/climate
